Documenting student learning is now easier than ever

Gary FalconProduct Features

One of the most popular features of Twine is the ability to provide evidence of learning using nontraditional assessments. Not sure how evidence of learning works?

Imagine this for a moment: You’re making your way around the classroom, looking over student work and talking with each student about the book they’ve just finished reading. Some students are drawing storyboards to represent key elements of the story, some are writing traditional book reports and one student is even writing a song!

Sounds great, right? The difficulty comes when you sit down to formally assess the students on these 1:1 conversations, pieces of art, and non-traditional classroom assignments. Gradebooks, whether part of a learning management system or not, don’t typically include ways to capture these types of assessments.

Now imagine you could take pictures and record videos to upload as evidence of student learning. Imagine tagging these items by standard demonstrated or learning goal achieved and sharing your observations and ad-hoc assessments with other staff members, parents, and students. Imagine using this approach to track student growth throughout the year – even when there aren’t formal tests or quizzes.

Now, enhancements to these features make it even easier for teachers to use this to document student learning.

  • Faster recording of individual evidence of learning – teachers can now enter new observations with a single click, leaving more time for observing and helping students.
  • Improved parent access – It is now easier than ever for parents to see various pieces of evidence collected by the teacher, both in student portfolios and in a separate area of the student profile
  • Enhanced notifications – Parents and students can opt into notifications, allowing them to be informed when new pieces of evidence are added to their portfolio
